It doesn't matter if you're 16 or 66 - you can have large pores. In general people with oily skin, tend to have larger pores, but any skin type can have enlarged pores. Especially if you're an overzealous picker or squeezer. And then as we age, sun damage, hormonal changes, and decreased skin elasticity can cause pores on even the most mature skin to expand or dilate. When pores are dirty or clogged with oil they appear larger.
The Good News is... You CAN reduce their appearance:
- Exfoliate using an at-home facial scrub or mask, gently exfoliate the skin twice a week to remove the top layers of dead skin cells, revealing cleaner, healthier pores.
- Use Steam or Hot Towels once or twice a month to open pores before applying an exfoliation mask. This will give you pores a deeper cleaning.
- Keep Skin Hydrated by using anti aging skin care products that contain AHA's which help to unclog pores, while hydrating the skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and stimulate collagen and elastin production. Wash your twice a day with a gentle cleanser and follow up with an alcohol free toner to balance skin and tighten pores.
- Use Non-Comedic Cosmetics, which means they won't clog pores. ALWAYS remove makeup before going to bed. Makeup can get imbedded into the bed and cause clogged pores, black heads and pimples.
- Microdermabrasion is another option to help exfoliate the dry dead skin and help refine and minimize enlarged pores. NOTE: Please see the article below for more info on Microdermabrasion.

PLEASE NOTE: For healthy skin, don't squeeze or pick at your skin, this can spread bacteria and may cause scarring. If you continue to have a problem with black heads or clogged pores - See an Esthetician or Dermatologist for their recommendations.
