Winter Skin

Winter weather is HARD on the skin! The dry air, harsh winds, and change of humidity rob the skin of precious moisture resulting in dry, flakey, itchy, chapped skin.

Here are (11) ways you can help winterproof your skin:

  1. Turn Down the Heat in your House...Especially at night - This will not only save you money, but will help reduce itching and dry skin. Wear more layers of clothing instead.
  2. Use a Humidifier - With the heat on, the air inside your house can become very dry. Using a humidifier will place moisture back into the air.
  3. Exfoliate your Skin 1-2 x's per Week. Use a wash cloth or GENTLE Facial or Body Scrub to exfoliate the dead skin cells before moisturizing. Just remember don't scrub too much or too hard as you can damage your skin.  Also, dry skin brushing is crucial and extremely beneficial during the winter months!
  4. DO NOT Take HOT Showers or Baths - Hot water has a drying effect and will only dry out your skin and strip your skin of moisture. Use tepid water and don't soak too long.
  5. Moisurizing is Key - Moisturize frequently with an oil based anti aging facial cream / anti wrinkle cream while your skin is moist, like after a shower - that is when your skin soaks up the most moisture. Also, use a good anti wrinkle eye cream before bed.
  6. Pay Special Attention to your Hands and Feet - Use a heavy cream based moisurizer often. Slather on hands and feet and then put on white socks before bed.
  7. Suncreen isn't just for Summer - Sunscreen is often the most overlooked anti aging skin care product in the Winter. Use and SPF of 20 or more.
  8. DO NOT Lick your Lips - That will only dry them out even more. Since lips have no oil glands, use a lip balm and apply often. If your lips do get chapped, gently exfoliate in a circular motion with a warm wet wash cloth or soft moist toothbrush.
  9. Eat Foods High in Omega-3 Fatty Acids - Like Salmon, nuts, and flaxseed oil which are all very beneficial for internally moisturizing the skin.
  10. Drink Lots of Water - Aim for 8 cups a day. Water not only hydrates, it washes away skin-damaging toxins and keeps your skin glowing.
  11. Get a Skin Care Facial - A facial is not only one of the most beneficial anti aging skin care treatments available for healthy skin, but it's great for the mind, body and spirit as well.
